Manufacturing Excellence Organisations Supporting Yorkshire & Humber Chemical Companies
Process Industry Centre for Manufacturing Excellence (PICME) is dedicated to helping companies operate their existing process equipment and associated business processes in the best possible way. It has had considerable success applying well established concepts from other sectors into the chemical industry. The Manufacturing Advisory Service is a DTI initiative to enable companies to access manufacturing related expertise and support. In the Yorkshire and Humber Region it is managed by Yorkshire Company Services. In turn, they use CIRCE to support the chemical industry. David Perkins at CIRCE provides the MAS for chemical companies in the Yorkshire & Humber region. The services include a free diagnostic review, research and possible help with funding projects. The MAS in Yorkshire & Humber is organised for all sectors by Yorkshire Company Services. Responsible Care covers all aspects of the production, distribution and use of chemicals arising from society's values in the areas of health, safety and environmental impact. The Chemical Industries Association is a leading proponent of Responsible Care in the UK chemical industry. It provides guidance on management systems and makes active representations to legislators. The British Chemical Traders and Distributors Association is very active on the application of Responsible Care to the distribution of chemicals. It provides advice on Responsible Care and access to documents. CIRCE operate a Responsible Care cell in West Yorkshire on behalf of the CIA and Yorkshire Forward. Safety, Health and Environment managers from many companies meet regularly on matters of common interest. The Green Business Support Network exists to help SMEs in Yorkshire & Humber to reduce waste and improve their energy efficiency. The UK Chemicals Regulatory Atlas is designed primarily for small or medium sized chemical manufacturers. It aims to bring help on the level of general interpretation and overview of regulations, emphasising key points and giving references and contact points for the provision of detailed information.
