Networking Organisations Organisations Supporting Yorkshire & Humber Chemical Companies
The regional chemical initiatives are private/public partnerships led by industrialists and formed to promote the interests of the chemical industry in specific geographical regions. Humber Chemical Focus is the industry body promoting the chemical industry in the Humber area. It is a public-private sector partnership addressing common interests and concerns as well as facilitating networking between members. YCF is a newly formed Regional Chemical Initiative covering West Yorkshire. It is expected that it will become active during 2005. PHS Consulting is actively establishing the organisations and is delighted to handle any enquiries. The Teesside Chemical Initiative addresses issues of common interest to around forty chemical companies in the Teesside area. Chemicals Northwest is an industry-led organisation driving strategic and sustainable development for the chemical and related industries in England’s Northwest. Its major themes are skills, sustainable development, innovation and image. P&S Cluster is an industry organisation to represent the interests of over a hundred speciality chemical, pharmaceutical and biochemical companies across the north of England. Although not a true Regional Chemical Initiative, CIRCE does provide networking for chemical companies in the region and provides other types of support. There are a very large number of trade associations involving the chemical industry. These links refer to some of the principal ones, others can be found by following the the Other Organisations link under Information Services. The Chemical Industries Association is the UK's leading leading trade association for the sector. It represents the industry to relevant stakeholders, supports members and promotes issues essential to the industry. The CIA is very active in matters such as REACH and Responsible Care. It also has a number of sector groups focused on particular parts of the industry. The British Chemical Traders and Distributors Association is a trade association representing those who distribute chemicals. It is committed to the conepts of Responsible Care. The British Association for Chemical Specialities (BACS) is the UK Trade Association representing the interests of companies operating in the field of speciality and performance chemicals, particularly maintenance products for institutional, industrial and consumer use, biocides, disinfectants, water treatment chemicals and speciality surfactants. Its objective is to promote high standards including health, safety and environment, to influence legislation and share information. The Specialised Organised Chemicals Sector Association, SOCSA, is an active secotr group within the CIA dedicated to the specialised organic chemicals industry. There are many professional bodies relevant to the chemical industry but the two of possibly greatest importance are the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Chemical Engineers The Royal Society of Chemistry has over 45,000 members and is the leading UK organisation promoting the chemical sciences. It also has over 70 special interest groups available to members. The Institute of Chemical Engineersis the leading professional organisation for chemical engineers. Its membership activities include eighteen special interest subject groups covering topics from catalysis to food and drink. There are several organisations that can provide information, intelligence or access to other specialist networks of interest to the chemical industry. ChemiNet is a not for profit service that proactively networks to match enquirer's company requirements with the operational capability of others. ChemiNet uses its database of over 800 companies to broker pilot plant, scale up, analytical equipment and contract manufacturing. Soris is a networking and intelligence service provided by CIRCE with a wealth of knowledge about the chemical industry and activities of chemical companies. They are a membership organisation but will also provide consultancy. It is a not-for-profit organisation. The SME Knowledge Network run by the Management School at Bradford University holds free and well attended events on topical management issues and provide a great opportunity to network. Chemsoc contains information on a range of special interest groups, networks and conferences of interest to the chemical community. Yorkshire Forward's chemical cluster team promote the general interests of the chemical industry across Yorkshire and Humber to drive the GDP of the cluster. A individual membership organisation promoting links between industry and chemistry. Chemicals NorthWest publish a large list of organisations of potential interest to the chemical industry.
